World We Dare to Imagine

I honestly don't know anything about what my first step into changing the world could be. If I'm honest, when I think about what I wanna change, I can only think of somewhat selfish thoughts, in the sense that the way I would "better the world" is in ways that benefit me.

I suppose I don't feel I'm in any position to make any large change in the world. I feel if I'm going to make any change at all, it would be in changing the lives of those close to me. I feel that's the most realistic way that I would create change.

My family and I have gone through the wringer if I'm going to be honest. Without getting into it too much, things have been rough for a long time, and I went to USC for the sole purpose of changing that. That's been my goal ever since I got here. I never went to parties or did anything stupid to risk losing my chance here because this has been so important to me. All I've wanted is to put myself in a position to help my family get out of the position they're in.

If there's anything I have the power and desire to change, it's that. If I can change the lives of those I'm close to, I think that's good enough for me.

  1. Your determination to improve the lives of your family is both admirable and impactful. While it's natural to feel uncertain about making a large-scale change, remember that creating positive change starts with those closest to us. Consider how you can leverage your skills and resources to support your family and make a difference in your community. You're already making a meaningful contribution to creating a better world, keep it up!

  2. This was a very honest piece and I appreciate that. I like how you pointed out how changing the world would have bias to what you see wrong of it because of your perspective. We don't realize this enough in how much our perspective changes how we think about things, look at things, and interact with things. We see problems because of our perspective, we all see different things, and it is important to hear others perspectives to get a better understanding of the whole problem

  3. I admire your honesty in this post as well as your dedication to your future. I'm pretty sure everyone wrote about larger topics, but it can be beneficial to zoom in sometimes and focus on just one part of life. It's still the world you're looking to change, just the small corner that is your own! And out of all the posts about changing the world, yours is definitely the most realistic. I hope you're able to help your family out the way you want, and maybe one day you find something you really want to change about the whole world.

  4. Thank you for being vulnerable and honest in your post. Even though you said you didn't like it in your pitch in-class, I did really enjoy reading it. I was talking with Jessica about this in class but we talked about the importance of seeing the "World We Dare to Imagine" in more than just a macro-world-changing view because being honest, it is not always feasible to solve world hunger or stop the violence of war (otherwise everyone would get a Nobel Peace Prize) but rather changing the lives of the people around you, on a micro-scale is just as important. For many many people in this world, their own lives is their observable world and it is just as important as solving the issues of a general populous. So if you can find yourself changing the life of just the people around you and those you love, I congratulate you in already changing the world for the better.
